Michele Cattani: Photo-Reporter at #MAXedTeam

Michele Cattani is a documentary photographer born in Reggio Emilia in 1991. After studying at the Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico and the Polytechnic University of Turin, he obtained a master's degree in film and media engineering. In 2017 he made his first trip to Mali, where he lived for five years until settling in the Mauritanian capital of Nouakchott. In the Sahel, he has made several photo reportages and documentaries, mainly for the AFP Agence France Presse news agency, as well as for several international newspapers, television stations, NGOs and UN agencies.

As a photographer and audiovisual maker, he uses these languages to better understand the context around him and to add complexity to his vision. His work is a way of putting others at the centre and pursuing stories that go beyond his own sphere of knowledge.

The photographic work he does requires complex logistics in remote and unstable areas that require long journeys through rough terrain and extreme weather conditions. In this region, the MAX Case are ideal for protecting photographic material from the sand, extreme heat and sudden downpours that characterise the rainy season. Thanks to the specially designed internal sponge, cameras, lenses and hard disks are not afraid to travel along desert runways or to fly commercial and humanitarian flights.
